Timely rains bring happiness and hope of good crop. What if it rains heavily in the middle of January?.
Sleepy Kinnigolians were in for a shock as a sudden and heavy downpour caught them by surprise in the late evening on Sunday. It was a normal hot day all along but all of a sudden skies turned cloudy and a heavy rain was reported along with lightning and thunderstorm at 10.30 P.M. There were reports of rains from Mangalore, Sullia, Belthangady Baikampady, Surathkal also.
Till the nineties the rains used to start in late May to early June and Y rarely extended beyond mid November. In last three years rain patterns have turned head over heels. Especially this year, Rain God has turned extremely capricious : monsoon has started in February and has extended literally till next January.
This is not at all a good news ; random rains are detrimental to crop and also are symbol of extreme changes in natures delicate balance. It was not a surprise as many were found at loss of words to respond to this rare happening.
May be these untimely rains are a warning to us all about the damage that has been caused to the nature and perhaps a reminder to us to think about the ways and means for doing our bit to save the earth.
